The 1953 British Mount Everest Expedition
This is a thematic style map created using a variety of different software packages. The hillshade image used as the base for the main map was created by digitizing contours from a detailed topographic map of the area. The digitized contours were then processed within ArcInfo (using various AML programs) to produce the image you see. The CorelDRAW 9 package was used to create the final map & page layout you see above. The image is large to facilitate reading of the maps text and fine details.
Bedrock Geology Map of Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia
This is a thematic style map created mainly within CorelDRAW. The major challenge in creating this map was the many required different patterns to illustrate the different geologic features. The boundaries for all the different areas were on-screen digitized from a scanned paper map within ArcView 3.1. The digitized data was then transferred into CorelDRAW for the final presentation. This map was one of the first color maps I produced, and it was a great challenge to make so many different colors and patterns work together in one map, and to make the text on the map face readable (due to online graphic limitations, most of the text on the map face is not very legible) .
